Mae Muller Is Back With “Breakaway,” a Bold Dance-Pop Reintroduction

Mae Muller steps into a new chapter with “Breakaway,” a striking track marking her independent rebirth.
Mae Muller returns with “Breakaway,” a track that introduces a fearless new direction for the London-born artist. Released after a 15-month hiatus, the single is a dance-pop anthem infused with raw emotion and creative freedom—her first as an independent artist.
Written by Mae and produced by Herik Michelsen, “Breakaway” captures the moment when vulnerability becomes empowerment. Propelled by pulsing basslines, shimmering synths, and vocoded vocals, the track channels early 2000s club energy while embracing personal storytelling.
“I wrote Breakaway in a time when I felt quite lost as an artist,” Mae reveals. “I was putting so much pressure on myself with my newfound independence… It’s about navigating vulnerability, but also finding my power within it, whilst not losing the joy along the way.”
The official video, directed by Ben Cole (Kylie, Mahalia), translates the song’s emotional arc into cinematic form—raw, intense, and electric. It reflects a moment of transition: leaving the past behind and stepping into a more authentic version of oneself.
Known for blending sharp-witted sass with heartfelt lyricism, Mae’s latest offering builds on her signature voice while exploring new sonic terrain. “Breakaway” signals a confident pivot, with echoes of self-reflection, reinvention, and artistic control.
With more music to come and her creative vision clearer than ever, Mae Muller is charting her next course—and taking listeners with her.
