Samantha Fish’s “Paper Doll” Redefines Modern Rock with Defiant Spirit and Electric Energy

“Paper Doll” sees Samantha Fish blend soulful rock, searing guitar, and fierce emotional insight.
Samantha Fish, one of the most electrifying guitarists of her generation, has unveiled Paper Doll, her new solo album out now via Rounder Records. Called “a genuine force of sonic prowess” by Rolling Stone, Fish’s latest offering merges rock, soul, and raw personal defiance.
Produced by Bobby Harlow (The Go), Paper Doll spotlights Fish’s signature “bold and expressive” sound (NPR World Cafe) while pushing new boundaries. Celebrating the release, Fish will perform “Lose You” on The Kelly Clarkson Show. Of the fiery track, Fish says, “It’s my way of saying, ‘I’m on fire and you’re not, so what are you gonna do about it?’”
With nine tracks rich in emotional depth and powerful guitar work, Paper Doll finds Fish “stretching idiomatic boundaries” (Nashville Scene). The album’s title, she says, represents rebelling against societal expectations.
Recorded between Austin and LA with her touring band—Ron Johnson, Jamie Douglass, and Mickey Finn—the album exudes “road-worn chemistry and raw, electric charm” (Blues Rock Review).
Following the Grammy-nominated Death Wish Blues and touring with icons like The Rolling Stones, Fish continues her ascent. She’s currently on tour across North America, including JazzFest performances.
