“Latency,” Lexa Gates’ new single, blends fantasy, desire, and visual symbolism.

With “Latency,” Lexa Gates once again demonstrates her gift for exploring emotional complexity through stylish sound and imagery. Released via Capitol Records, the track is produced by Jasper Harris and Aaron Shadrow and samples Hamilton Bohannon’s “Tell Me You’ll Wait.”

The lyrics reflect a sensual yet reflective voice: “I got ideas of you, making moves on me, what’s with the latency?” Lexa says of the song: “a sexy fantasy of a love left on delay. Waiting for a text back, or a move to be made.” Of its inspiration, she adds, “I got in the studio late night with the GOATS. From New York to LA. Being around all these rich older men sparked a curiosity in me. It’s a tale as old as time.”

Directed by Ganna Bodgan, the video adds a surreal layer. In it, Lexa traverses city streets, club bathrooms, and high-end getaways, always with a giant bag—symbolizing attention and emotional projection. The looped narrative ends where it began, echoing the song’s message of romantic stasis.

Following her Elite Vessel art piece—where she spent 10 hours in a transparent NYC box—Lexa continues to use visual media to explore themes of vulnerability and connection. The installation attracted more than 300 million views, further elevating her status in the cultural conversation.
