Lights Delivers Two Bold New Singles From Her Upcoming Album “A6”
Lights showcases sonic duality in “WHITE PAPER PALM TREES” and “SURFACE TENSION,” now streaming.
With her album A6 set to arrive on May 2, Lights reveals two of its most defining moments: “WHITE PAPER PALM TREES” and “SURFACE TENSION.” Released simultaneously, the tracks reflect the dynamic creative range Lights continues to explore—each capturing a different emotional and stylistic spectrum of her upcoming project.
“WHITE PAPER PALM TREES” is warm and nostalgic, echoing the early synth-pop textures that first introduced Lights to audiences. In contrast, “SURFACE TENSION” dives into darker territory, with sharp-edged dark wave production, a nod to new wave, and German-language lyrics that align with the album’s broader influences.
“I couldn’t decide which song to release because I feel like both appeal to such different sides of the fan base,” she explains. “So I had the idea to release both simultaneously and let the fans decide where they stand.”
In true multi-hyphenate fashion, Lights also directed and edited both accompanying videos, designed to be played side by side. Together, the dual visuals create a layered narrative and visual interplay that highlights the emotional divide—and dialogue—between the tracks.
With “ALIVE AGAIN” and “DAMAGE” already out, Lights’ A6 rollout has been rich in concept and scope. Fans can pre-order the album now, with special editions including signed vinyl and an exclusive orange crush pressing.
In celebration, Lights will host Lights at Slipper Clutch (A)Live Again – an A6 Night, an exclusive April 15 fan event in Los Angeles. Entry is available via her TikTok, just ahead of her upcoming North American tour.
