“Carried Away”: Nell Mescal Debuts Emotionally Rich Single From Brooklyn Sessions

Nell Mescal releases “Carried Away,” produced by Philip Weinrobe, marking her first track with Atlantic.
Nell Mescal has released “Carried Away,” her first single under Atlantic Records, signaling the beginning of her next artistic chapter. Recorded in Brooklyn with acclaimed producer Philip Weinrobe, the track offers emotional nuance, honest songwriting, and atmospheric instrumentation.
The song captures the disillusionment that can come with seeking validation in uncertain relationships. “It’s a song about asking for reassurance from someone you’re in a tumultuous relationship with and being disappointed by their answer,” explains Nell. “Instead of saying they love you back, they say they just got carried away.”
In the studio, the creative process evolved naturally and collaboratively. “The demo of this vs the finished product is so different and it was so exciting to create in the studio. I played it with just me and a guitar for the band and after playing it once everyone joined in and it immediately became clear the direction we were headed in. Philip had some amazing ideas.
We thought about doing a lyric change in the second pre chorus and he had the entire band play the same section over and over again while I wrote as quickly as possible…and it really elevated the song.”
Accompanying the single is a new music video that brings the track’s introspective tone to life. It marks Nell’s first visual release since her debut EP. With a strong presence at festivals like TRNSMT and Somerset House, Nell’s live calendar continues to expand with stops at Reading & Leeds and Come Together Festival. A headline UK tour is scheduled for late 2025.
