Skegss Share Laid-Back New Single “State of Hawaii” From ‘Top Heavy’

Skegss unveil “State of Hawaii,” a Latin-inspired track from their EP Top Heavy, out June 27 via Loma Vista.
Byron Bay trio Skegss return with their new single “State of Hawaii”, a tropical-infused release that steps away from their surf-punk roots. It’s the second single from their upcoming EP Top Heavy, arriving June 27 through Loma Vista Recordings.
“State of Hawaii” blends bossa nova influences, live trumpet, Spanish vocals, and a relaxed groove that feels tailor-made for island daydreaming. The single is a reflection on both physical paradise and the emotional pull of escapism.
Frontman Benny Reed shares:
“We had a bit of fun with this song in the studio where we tried a few different versions and then thought it would be fun to go a little Latin or Cuban… We got some congas in there and trumpet for the first time, as well as some Spanish vocals.”
Directed by Kale Neville, the accompanying video was filmed while the band toured internationally, offering candid moments from life on the road.
The band recently completed a 20-date North American tour and are wrapping up their European shows, including sold-out stops in London, Paris, and Glasgow. Next month, they kick off their biggest Australian tour ever, with nationwide dates and inclusion in the 2025 VIVID program.
Following 2023’s Pacific Highway Music and their chart-topping Rehearsal, Skegss continue to evolve—embracing new styles while holding on to their irreverent charm.
